Shoot the Rainbow! Verdict: Skittles Vodka

Skittles Vodka

Ahhhhhhhhmazing! Remember how much you loved eating Skittles as a kid!? Well now there's a "grown up" version!

This stuff is super easy to make and is sooooo delicious! You can do this a couple of different ways: 1) make a bunch of miniature bottles (perfect for gifts, which is what I'm planning to do!), or 2) make larger batches of each flavor and store in your own containers.

Here's what you need:

15 mini vodka bottles (I used Absolut)
1  14oz bag of Skittles, original flavors, but I'm sure you could use any kind you like
Coffee filters
Funnel

Step 1
Sort the Skittles by color into bowls/glasses.

Step 2
Pour the vodka over the skittles - I used 3 mini vodka bottles for each color.

Step 3
Stir, stir, stir! The vodka will melt the Skittles over time. It took about 30 hours total, stirring a few times each day, for the Skittles to completely dissolve.

Step 4
The gelatin from the melted Skittles will float to the top. Use a coffee filter to strain the gelatin from the vodka. This part is a little tricky - I found it easiest to put a filter on top of a glass, then secure the filter by putting a rubber band around the outside of the glass, then gently pushing the filter down to make room for the vodka. Pour the vodka into the glass, and let it do its thing. This takes time, so be patient!

If you want to hasten the filtering process, grab some gloves (this stuff will stain your hands) and carefully hold the coffee filter in place while sliding the rubber band down, then gather the filter at the top and gently squeeze the bottom. Make sure you don't squeeze too hard or the filter will break and you'll have to start over!

Here's a tip: don't worry too much about wasting a little bit of the vodka in this process - the melted Skittles adds to the total volume, and you'll actually have some left over - yea!

Step 5
Pour your Skittles flavored vodka back into the mini bottles/other containers. A funnel is a must! Also, it helps if you use a container that's easy to pour from. The bottles are small and fill up fast. I finally wised up to this by the time I got to the third color!

Step 6
Enjoy! You can drink them straight up (which I highly recommend - chilled of course), add them to 7Up, or create your own Skittles inspired cocktail! Here's how mine turned out:

Now, remember that "little extra vodka" I told you about? Well, I mixed all of my flavors together (just like I did as a kid) and... Bottoms up!

  2. So I am curious, if it could stain your hands, did it make your tongue colored too? LOL

    That would be super funny.
